I chose to interview my mother because she hates the music I listen to, and I wanted to see her taste
in music.
Me: What role did music play in your childhood?
Mom: Music played a big role in my childhood such as singing in the church choir and going out with my friends to events where we danced and had a great time.
Me: What was your favorite genre of music during your childhood?
Mom: My favorite genre of music during my childhood was R & B because the music was easy to dance to and it would be played a lot on the radio.
Me: What music did you dislike during your childhood and why did you dislike it?
Mom: Music that I disliked during my childhood would be country music because I could not connect or relate to the music during this time.
Me: What artist did you listen to during your childhood?
Mom: The artists I listened to during my childhood would be the Jackson 5, Earth wind fire, James Brown, Ale Green, Ohio Players, Sherlie Cesar and Keith sweat.
Me: How do you feel about today’s music on the radio?
Mom: I like some of today’s music but also, I dislike a lot of the music because there is a lot of profanity where there's no need to. During my childhood and teenage years there was not a lot of profanity in the music I listened to.
Me: What device did you use to listen to music?
Mom: I used a radio and turntable.
Me: what instrument do you wish you knew how to play?
Mom: I wish I knew how to play the piano because I think it is beautiful how you can use your fingers to play an instrument and create music.
Me: If you were a part of an established religion, what kind of music did it have? Did you participate, and, if so, how?
Mom: I was part of Mt.Zion United Methodist church and I sang in the youth choir; youth usher and I didn’t want to do that.
Me: What songs helped you get through rough times and why?
Mom: A song that helped me get through rough times would Lord help me to hold out by: James Clevland. This song helped me get through rough times because the words in the song were so powerful and it gave me a boost in confidence.
Me: If There is one song to describe your childhood what would it be and why?
Mom: A song that would describe my childhood would be No charge by: Shirley Cesar because the song talks about how your parents took care of you for no charge.
I interviewed my mother as well and she also said how she cannot connect to country music and is not a big fan of it. Same as with the part where your mom said there is so much profanity nowadays. It is so cool to see how their music taste is different because of how music was to them whereas profanity is songs for us is something we are just used to and most of the time just ignore it. Great interview!
ReplyDeleteI loved your interview! I have had a really fun time reading everyone's blogs and comparing the differences between all of them. Your mom has the exact opposite taste in music from my mom! My mom also agreed that there is a lot of profanity in today's music, hence why she mostly listens to radio-friendly music.
ReplyDeleteWhile i was reading your blog some of it was cut off, but from what I read it was a wonderful interview. My parents however don't care about cussing. One of my parents favorite bands that is new is called $uicideboy$. As you can tell by the name they are out there which is why I did not include that into my blog. Which I've experienced through the different blogs that my parents are a lot different than others. However, they still have high morals when it comes to being in the public eye. We like what we like, but we are respectful when it comes to those around us. Therefore, I enjoyed reading your blog, and learning the different taste in music you and your mother have.
